A client who we had worked with previously in IT contacted us totally out of the blue one day. "I've just bought premises in York to develop into a hotel and restaurant – all I know is I want it to look stylish – HELP!"

The premises are located next to Petergate, one of the historic gatehouses on York's perimeter wall. Because it is such a recognisable landmark we decided to incorporate a stylised illustration of the gatehouse in the logo. The identity was branded onto leaflets, menus, signage, postcards, wine labels, web site – in fact absolutely everything!


Our inspiration - the Porta Principalis ancient gateway - situated in the York city wall. Elegant signage catches the eye of people passing in the wake of York Minster. Sophisticated menus using stylish colours to differentiate. The small folding brochures imply a hotel and bistro that is homely, yet luxurious.

We designed the website to look clean, stylish, yet easy to use. The concept was to show this is a glamorous place to stay in a beautiful city where you could be sure of individual, high-class treatment and excellent food.
